Secondary Market Prints Make Profitable and Beautiful Investments
The other day, someone purchased my last limited edition (paper) of Once There Were Millions by Mary Roberson. I hated to lose it. I know that few, if any, other sites on the internet were offering it. I sold it for $125 but I knew that I could have gotten more for it, as the demand was greater than the supply. After I sold it, the print instantly increased in value. I told that to my customer but I’m not sure that she fully realized it. I’m sure that she purchased it for the sheer beauty of it (like most other customers) and that she’ll frame it and hang it on her wall to enhance one of the rooms in her home.
There are so many examples of limited editions that have skyrocketed in value. We once had a print by Chris Owen titled “Contemplatin” that sold for $80 in February 2006. We no longer have it, but today I saw it on another website being offered for $465. And someone will eventually buy it for that price.
The good news is that we have a secondary market art prints section where we offer paper limited editions and artist proofs that were sold out but we have reacquired. These prints are sure to appreciate in value, as Elegant Horse Pictures is one of the few websites that offer these.
I did some investigative work, and I couldn’t find any other sites offering the paper limited versions of Rocky Mountain Paradise by Tim Cox or A Cowboy’s Morning by Chris Owen. We have several of each.
Currently, the artist proof of A Drover by Chris Owen may be available on other sites, but it won’t be available much longer as the publisher recently announced that they are out. My guess is that come Christmastime, Elegant Horse Pictures will be the only website that offers it.
When the artist G Harvey is mentioned, the word “rare” might be the first thought that pops into a Western artist lovers head. His prints sell out the day that they are issued. We have acquired several and they are also in the secondary market art prints section. With the stock market being so unpredictable these days, these limited edition prints are a terrific investment. After all, you’re not simply obtaining a stock certificate, you’re getting a beautiful piece of artwork and the prices are much easier to predict than the price of a share of General Motors. And you’re getting a better return too!
