Wood Memorial, Santa Anita, and Illinois Derby

A big day of racing is over and not all went according to form.  A tired War Pass was nailed at the wire by Tale of Ekati under a very nice ride by Edgar Prado.

The Illinois Derby was a huge shocker.  Recapturetheglory took advantage of a big rail bias and scored under jockey ET Baird in what had to be the biggest win of his career.  This horse was aptly named as Louis Roussel, who has been out training business for several years due to health issues, was the winning trainer and he’s back in the limelight once again.

In the Santa Anita Derby Colonel John got a nicely timed ride by Corey Nakatani and came home the winner and defeating Bob Black Jack, who was all over the track.  In my view Colonel John is the most likely of Saturday’s winners to contend in the Kentucky Derby.

Curlin, Dubai World Cup Winner

We have a new section devoted to the 2007 horse of the year and recent Dubai World Cup winner Curlin.  Curlin also won the Preakness and the Breeders Cup Classic last year so his list of credentials is growing.

Curlin is also unusual because his owner, Jess Jackson, has elected to race him as a four year old.  In past years, most three year champions are retired to stud duty.

I have a facination with thoroughbred horse’s names and Curlin is named after a slave from Kentucky that fought for the union.

It appears that no one has told the colt about all the turmoil involving his ownership (a couple of his owners are in jail).  It has not affected his performance in the least.  In fact Curlin appears to be getting better and better.

Check out our Curlin Photographs and Pictures section.

Western Artist Gordon Snidow Giclees

We’ve just added ten giclees from Gordon Snidow.  He is one of our most popular artists and it’s always great to see new works from him.

In case you don’t know, a giclee (gee-clay) is a very beautiful form of art reproduction.  It’s a fairly new process.   Think of it as the equivalent of high definition television.  The colors are much sharper.  Unfortunately, the images that we have on our website cannot quite show the quality.

Two New Prints By Terri Kelly Moyers

We’ve just added two new prints by artist Terri Kelly Moyers.  They’re a couple of cowgirl prints.  One is titled Rough and Ready and the other is titled Rockin To And Fro.

Up until now, we’ve only offered one open edition print of hers as most of her offerings have been limited editions.  But these new ones are very affordable open editions.

Robert Dawson Prints Added

We added twenty new prints to the Robert Dawson section.  Dawson is a Western photographer and I’ve got a feeling that these new prints will be extremely popular.

I wanted to get them on the site as soon as I could.

New Snapshot Feature Makes Shopping Easier

We are happy to announce the addition of a new feature to our store.  It’s called “Snap Shop” and it’s very simple and effective.  If you want some quick information on one of our section pages (Tim Cox Prints, David Stoecklein Prints….).

All you have to do is place the mouse arrow over one of the thumbnail images and when it says “view details”, click on it, and it will give you a quick summary of the item.

The page will build much quicker so you will save time and you should be able to view more details of items in a shorter period of time.

You can actually have several Snap Shop windows open at the same time if you want to do some comparison shopping.

Of course you can still click on the blue text link to see the larger view of the item.

Picture Sets

I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays.  At Elegant Horse Pictures, things were very busy and I want to thank our customers.  I have THE BEST CUSTOMERS!

We’ve added something that we meant to do a long time ago.  Many customers want a matching set of prints by the same artist in the same size.  For example, a horse facing to the left and a horse facing to the right.   The horse picture sets section is now live!

We currently have seven sets and that total will grow.  We may even include some sets that do not exactly fit our horse and Western theme.  So keep an eye on that section.

Could It Be?

Probably the most requested limited edition print that we’ve ever offered is As Good As It Gets by Tim Cox.  We sold our last one in December of 2006 and we’ve had so many requests for it since then.  I’ve search far and wide for another but could not come up with one.  I had all but given up hope until someone called me a couple of weeks ago and said that she had not one or two, but FIVE of them!  I was able to sweet talk her into selling them to me.  I’ll probably offer three of them for sale and I’ll probably hold the other two.  I’ll be up front about the price.  It is $795 right now and it will probably go up with each one that we sell.  We try to specialize in offering limited edition prints that other sites don’t have.  This print is another feather in our cap!
